Choose Healing: Super Lunar Eclipse (Full Moon) in Aries (October 17th, 2024)

The Super Lunar Eclipse in Aries: the third and final eclipse of this season is upon us (October 17th, 2024). In this article, let’s explore what this means and what to expect.

Let’s start with clearing up the terms.

The Astro-jargon

What’s an eclipse?

Eclipses are what happens when the Sun, Moon, and Earth align in such a way in the sky that either the Sun’s or Moon’s light is significantly dimmed. As an example, an eclipse happening on a New Moon is a Solar Eclipse – the light of the Sun is blocked out by the Moon, partially or fully (we had one on October 2nd, 2024.) An eclipse on a full moon is called a Lunar Eclipse. Here, the full moon’s light is dimmed or altered in color because the Earth’s shadow happens to fall on the Moon. This is why Lunar Eclipses are also nicknamed “Blood Moons.” Most recently, we had one on September 17th, but this eclipse, too, is a “Blood Moon.”

Eclipses always happen in pairs or triplets and each eclipse is felt most intensely for an entire week but impacts our lives for up to a month.

What’s a Super eclipse?

Super Moons are new moons, full moons, or eclipses that are closer to Planet Earth than normal. Ergo, the moon in the sky is bigger and more impactful (on the tides, or in astrology!) than on normal full moons, new moons, or eclipses. The astronomical reason for this is that the Moon’s orbit around Earth isn’t completely circular, so there are places within the orbit where the Moon is closest to Earth – and therefore, appears bigger and stronger than usual. As eclipses are new or full moons, this phenomenon can happen to eclipses as well: and if it happens (like now!), then the eclipse is super-charged.

The Axis of Eclipses

There are 2 points of alignment where the Sun, Moon, and Planet Earth can come together to form eclipses. These points are called the Lunar Nodes and they can fall into zodiac signs (that move around across the zodiac). So far, these Lunar Nodes have been in the signs of Aries and Libra – and this is the last eclipse before the Lunar Nodes leave said signs. Also, this is the final eclipse of this season and the entire year: this means that this eclipse has an even stronger theme of wrapping things up than usual.

So, let’s put this all together:

Choose Healing: Super Lunar Eclipse in Aries

Our choices make us who we are – this is even truer now on this eclipse than usual. On this Lunar Eclipse (Full Moon + eclipse) that happens to be closer to Earth than usual and conjunct both Eris and Chiron, we have the choice to take the action that heals our hearts.

Eris is a dwarf planet concerned with being “othered,” with having to fight tooth and nail with no holds barred to survive. Many of us have wounds around that sort of thing, wounds around not fitting in and not being invited to the table, with being the odd one out, and always being misunderstood. Many of us feel the pressure to do whatever it takes to survive because one tiny moment of surrender might bring the tower crashing down.

A lot of times, human beings go through seasons where being othered or being in survival mode is a reality. Unfortunately, we can leave that season behind but still retain the expectation of being isolated or the internal pressure of needing to fight for survival. When that happens, we suffer.

Fortunately, this eclipse adds the symbol of healing to this energy: Chiron joins this eclipse and provides the wisdom and transmutational energy to help us see where we can let go of the heavy burden we’re carrying, change our mindset, and in some cases, even change our lives to have a little peace.

This peace requires active participation on our ends. With the South Node in Libra, the reality we’d like won’t drop into our laps without us having to put in the work, it requires us to actively claim our destiny and act in accordance with what we want. But that doesn’t mean we have to literally bust our butts.

Whatever action you need to take at this point to heal (whether you consciously realize your actions will eventually lead to healing or not): you’re being supported along your path.

Healing is non-linear and it may very well be that you don’t see results until March 2025, but take the action anyway… because you WILL see results eventually.

Sometimes, an astrological event like this also plays out as outward situations coming for us that force healing. Healing chases us but it sometimes comes in disguise. Trust that whatever is happening for you right now is for your highest good. If a relationship ends, this likely prevents further heartbreak you’d encounter if the relationship had stayed. If a job or opportunity you wanted falls away, then it wasn’t the right time, the right job, or the right opportunity for you.

A big part of this particular Lunar Eclipse is also relationships: opposed to Juno, asteroid of marriage, this eclipse prepares us for a deeper, truer, and healthier kind of committed love (or marriage) with a new or preexisting partner. Sometimes, we have to put our heads straight before we can enter the level of intimacy with a partner that we crave (or… before we can find a partner we’d like).

This eclipse provides that for you.

A little warning: while this eclipse isn’t nearly as intense on this as the one on October 2nd, it’s still one where people can get a little hotheaded. Try to keep cool where you can and don’t sweat the small stuff. However, it also isn’t nearly as dire as the previous eclipse, so you can absolutely choose this timing to throw down if necessary.

Old wounds may come up which may require you to be kind to yourself. If you can, schedule some time for self-care, and don’t plan for everything to go 100% right.

March 2025 will be an incredibly important month for you so work towards that timeframe with “everything you’d still like to do.” Lastly, life may have an interesting surprise for you. Stay alert!

Taurus:

Keywords: rest, release, necessary endings, karmic culmination, spirituality, time by yourself.

This eclipse is asking you to face the old wounds you’ve carried with you for a long time and to release patterns of behavior that keep you stuck. At this time, you might want to prioritize time for rest and time by yourself. Unfortunately, this may be quite an intense time for you, but please know that there’s a new dawn coming soon. Rest, release what needs to be released, and end what you’ve been allowing to drag on for too long, and know there are better times around the corner.

Gemini:

Keywords: community, friendship, social media, fame/infamy, legacy, hopes and dreams for the future, life after 50.

This eclipse brings heart healing for and with your friends and community. If any part of you still feels like you’re struggling to belong, this time may open up those wounds – but only so that they can heal. You might meet some cool new friends and healing people, and you might lose people who’ve never been your friends in the first place. This event sets you up for having a good community later on, and a great future for the rest of your life. You’ve got this!

Cancer:

Keywords: career, mission, reputation, authority figures, legacy, parents (father).

This event plays out in your house of career, job, authority, reputation, legacy, and life mission. For some people, this may look like the realization that something on your job/career/mission front needs to change and end. If that is the case, please act accordingly – it’ll get worse, not better. However, that’s not for everybody: for the people who are in the “right” career/work/mission, this is a time when the work you do has an incredibly healing impact on you and others. You might have the opportunity to use your gifts like never before and become recognized for it.

Leo:

Keywords: belief systems (including religion), travel, luck, broadening horizons, teaching, learning.

This event heals your faith in the world and life itself. You may find that your horizon broadens and that outdated belief systems change (political, psychological, philosophical, religious, and more). But also, you may find yourself in situations where you can share your gifts and wisdom with the world in a way that heals others and yourself. Luck is on your side and you may find yourself on a mental or physical adventure that heals your heart and shows you that you belong.

Virgo:

Keywords: truth, trust, secrets, the wound, healing, intimacy/sexuality, going deep.

This event shows you how truth, in fact, sets you free, and how and how trusting in the right people heals you on a deeper level than you ever thought possible. At this time, get honest with yourself and others and let secrets come to light. Allow the people you trust to show you that they’re worth it. Also, this event is about power for you: step into your power and see how the world benefits from your presence, your strength, and your gifts.

Libra:

Keywords: 1-on-1 relationships, business partners, marriage, love, commitment.

This event, first and foremost, helps you get closer to love. If you have a partner, events, conversations, and realizations may happen that deepen your commitment or love for one another. If you don’t have a partner, events, conversations, and realizations may happen that actively prepare you for the right partner for you. Part of this (regardless of what camp you fall in) includes healing the wound of abandonment and the wound of playing pretend rather than accepting that someone will love you as you are. Embrace who you truly are, and trust what’s to come.

Scorpio:

Keywords: health, wellbeing, work, daily chores and routines, environment, pets, being of service.

This event may be an incredibly healing opportunity for you, which includes physical and mental health as well as changes in your workplace or in your daily life/environment that promote a happier and healthier life. If you need to set any boundaries with people or make changes at your work, now is the time to do so. If you need to make changes in how you support others, now is the time to do so. Lastly, you may find opportunities to bring your unique gifts to the work you’re in and/or the people you’re helping.

Sagittarius:

Keywords: pleasure, children, romance, creativity, fertility.

This event may bring you heart healing in or through romantic love and creative endeavors. Not everyone has a partner at this time (and if you don’t, that’s okay) but right now, the world conspires to help heal your heart through events in love. This may look like removing people in some (rare) cases who aren’t good for us long term. This can also look like meeting new people to love. Creative endeavors and the things that bring you joy may too have profoundly healing effects on you right now. Lastly, children and/or topics around fertility may invite you on a healing journey or show you how far you’ve come.

Capricorn:

Keywords: family, the home, parents (mother), foundations, roots, private life.

This eclipse helps you find healing with your past, with the family you’ve made (if applicable), and with your family of origin. This is a time to take a couple of hours off of work and spend time with your loved ones or just by yourself at home. If you’d like to build a family with someone else but don’t have a partner yet, you may be guided one step further in finding them. Also, many people with this combination may encounter big endings or changes in their home life or family system.

Aquarius:

Keywords: communication, learning, the media, perception, local life, siblings.

This eclipse helps you heal your mind and the way that you perceive the world. Sometimes when we’re stressed, the world may literally look like a dark place – if that’s the case for you, this eclipse will show you the truth of what’s really there and help you see the bright sides as well. In your local life, with your siblings, or in learning environments, something may change or come to an end. This is good for you.

Pisces:

Keywords: values, self-worth, finances, monetizable skills, assets.

This event asks you to take what you’ve learned about yourself on and around September 18th and put your money where your mouth is. Your self-esteem, the values you hold, and even your mindsets around finances may be up for healing. You may also have more business opportunities, specifically if your work is about giving your unique gifts to the world and about helping others. Trust what’s coming through and dare to dive beneath the surface of life. Trust in your intuition!
